Live as Art

18-metre projection screen · Generative + AI · Nuanu

The studio's most ambitious multimedia experiment to date. An 18-metre tall projection screen built from scratch at Nuanu, paired with a generative-graphics layer and a real-time AI surface that guests could prompt themselves. Programme assembled an international cast of musicians for one ceremonial night that doubled as Nuanu's anniversary.

  1. Brief

Build a one-night experiment at Nuanu: an 18-metre projection screen + generative graphics + a guest-promptable AI layer + an international musician programme.

  2. Approach

Custom truss + tensioned fabric for the screen. Two visual layers: studio-built generative content + real-time AI prompts entered by guests on a panel and rendered onto the screen.

  3. Outcome

An 18-metre canvas that accepted, in real time, prompts from the audience. Programme bridged Indonesian locals and international guests across continents. All identity, posters and lineup designed by the studio.

  4. Challenges

Mid-event, wind tore the screen loose. The rig was re-tensioned during a break; the show resumed without losing the night.

  5. Result

A first-of-its-kind format the studio now owns: large-scale projection + generative + audience-prompt AI. A reusable template for future Nuanu anniversaries and venue collaborations.

Live as Art is the studio's most ambitious experiment to date. The brief was simple and absurd in equal measure: build an 18-metre projection screen from scratch, run two visual layers on it (studio-composed generative graphics + a real-time AI surface that guests could prompt themselves), and assemble an international musician programme for one ceremonial night at Nuanu.

I · The screen

We built the rig from the ground up. Custom truss frame, tensioned fabric stretched across the full 18 metres of vertical surface, projector array calibrated to fill it from below. The construction took most of the day before the event.

Then the wind picked up — and the fabric tore loose. We re-tensioned the screen on the spot, finished install during the soundcheck window, and the show began on schedule.

Install — a crane lifts the truss frame into position, golden dome of Nuanu's central pavilion visible behind.
Install — three crew members tensioning the fabric across the horizontal beam, dome of Nuanu in the background.

II · Two visual layers

The first layer was the studio's generative composition — colour fields, audio-reactive paint, drifting form, scored to the night's musical programme.

The second layer was a real-time AI surface. Guests at the venue could enter their own text prompts on a control panel; their prompts ran through our pipeline and surfaced on the 18-metre screen within seconds. Authorship of the visual was, for the first time at this scale, distributed across the audience.

III · The programme

Live as Art was, secretly, a milestone night for Nuanu — and the studio used the occasion to assemble a programme it could not have justified for a normal event. International musicians flew in; Indonesian artists held the local context; the lineup bridged continents that rarely share a stage.

The studio designed the entire identity for the night: posters, social, communication. Programme curation, technical operation, and post-event archive — all in-house.

The wind tore the screen down once. We tensioned it again and the show began.
