Kriya · Daniel Popper

Multimedia activation · Nuanu Creative City

A multimedia activation around Daniel Popper's Kriya sculpture at Nuanu — the studio composed the light, laser and sound choreography that brought the work to life at Suara Festival 2024. Featured by Vogue Singapore as a centrepiece of the festival.

  1. Brief

Bring Daniel Popper's Kriya — a face rising from Nuanu's jungle floor — to life for Suara Festival 2024.

  2. Approach

Stage as nature's creature waking up. Layer beams, lasers, audio-reactive light onto the sculpture and surrounding canopy.

  3. Outcome

A nightly composition for the main stage: lasers reading the music live, fog shaping the beams, programmed light score.

  4. Challenges

Organic sculpture in living jungle — canopy moves, humidity is high, audience density shifts by the hour.

  5. Result

Featured by Vogue Singapore as Suara's visual centrepiece. An audience that returned to Kriya every night.

Daniel Popper's Kriya at night, lit purple and yellow with smoke and laser beams across the jungle, audience gathered at the base.

Kriya is one of Daniel Popper's monumental works at Nuanu Creative City — a face emerging from the jungle floor, crowned with sculpted bamboo. The studio composed the multimedia language that brings her alive at festival time: laser, light, fog, and sound, scored to the moment.

I · Daytime sculpture, nightfall ritual

By day, Kriya reads as botanical architecture — a face nestled into the planting at the centre of one of Nuanu's open clearings, with sound towers staged respectfully at her flanks. The intent of the daytime composition is restraint: the sculpture is the protagonist; the equipment retreats.

By night, the discipline reverses. The studio's score takes the stage. Lasers trace her crown; fog shapes the beams; audio-reactive light reads the music live; and the surrounding canopy of trees becomes part of the lit room.

II · The festival's centrepiece

For Suara Festival 2024, Kriya became the festival's beating heart. Vogue Singapore's coverage — *Inside Suara Festival in Bali — where art, nature and culture collide* — chose her as the cover image: a vertical column of laser light pouring over her face from a teal sky, a small audience visible at her base.

The composition wasn't about volume. It was about the slow drama of a sculpture noticing the night around her — and an audience noticing themselves inside the room she was building.

By day, the sculpture is the protagonist. By night, the studio's score is the room.
