Pop-up music venue activation · Nuanu

A multimedia activation of Jam Hall — Nuanu's pop-up music space. The studio composed the lighting score that lets the room shift between intimate jam session and full-scale gig in the span of a single evening.

  1. Brief

    Equip Nuanu's Jam Hall with a multimedia language that suits both an intimate jam session and a full-scale gig — without needing a separate rig for each.

  2. Approach

    Design a base lighting setup that reads as warm and conversational by default, with a single command-line shift to dramatic mode. Audio reactive only when called for; off-stage by default.

  3. Outcome

    A modular lighting score, three programmable scenes — lounge, jam, gig — and an audio-reactive overlay that visiting VJs can hand-pilot from the booth.

  4. Challenges

    A room that has to be both a living room and a stage. Equipment needed to be invisible during conversation and present during performance.

  5. Result

    A venue that hosts everything from late-night sessions to ticketed gigs without tearing down between events. A reusable pattern for Nuanu's other multi-mode rooms.

Jam Hall is one of Nuanu's pop-up rooms — a space designed to shift between intimate jam and full gig in a single evening. The studio composed the multimedia language that lets it do this without a teardown between modes.

I · Three modes, one rig

Lounge: warm pools of light, conversational level, no programming. Jam: a softer stage emphasis, audio-reactive overlay subtle, audience close. Gig: full stage emphasis, dynamic programming, optional VJ pilot from the booth.

All three share the same physical rig. The transition between them is a scene-call from the booth, not a re-rig.

II · The booth as instrument

Visiting VJs walk into a system that already knows the room. Pre-built scenes give them a starting point; an audio-reactive overlay gives them a live instrument; a one-touch return-to-lounge protects the venue when the night ends earlier than planned.
